Montreal Jazz Festival: As Sterling As Silver
There was an "El Nino" Cuban Wind brought on by Jesus Perez and his 12-piece Latin band that performed hyperventilatingly at an outdoor stage and later pressure cooked Salsa dancers in the upstairs Cubana Room. Perez featured songs from his greatest hits cd and showcased his band with his singing and flute playing prowess.
Others performing througout the 11-day Fest were Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul Syndicate, Jack DeJohnette, His Maestro Bobby McFerrin, Carmen Lundy, and Antonio Hart.
Joshua Redman, Tamango Urban Tap, Karrin Allyson, Charlie Biddle Jr. and sister Stephanie filled the shoes of their dad who had played the Jazz Cruise for 24 years.
H'Sao from Chad sang in French, Arabic, and English and had a great press party on the Wyndham Terrace and sang songs accapella. The six singers entertained an audience enjoying every tonal note sipping good wine, beer, gourmet cheese.
Russell Gunn, Lizz Wright, and Norah Jones put the icing on the 24th Montreal Jazz Festival, wonderfully. And like Muhammed Ali, the world's most famous figure, FIJM/The Montreal Jazz Festival is unchallengingly, "The Greatest" amalgum of Jazz best described as ethereally Sterling Silver. The Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of jazz Festivals of All Times.
