Sadao Watanabe
George Kanzler
Jazz and music critic for major daily newspaper, also syndicated by Newhouse News Service, from 1968 to 2002; frelance since.While many of his recordings in the previous decades were highly produced studio sessions, that reunion album is one of a trio of live recordings Sadao has released in Japan recently emphasizing his sax playing rather than production values, his return to "basics." One of them, a double-CD, Basie's at Night, features the working band he'll be bringing to the Blue Note this month.
