Ayman Fanous and Tomas Ulrich in Concert: Improvisational Excitement in Classical Music
Fanous' bouzouki returned for the most compelling segment of the evening. Ulrich began by instilling a drone character, intoning his tones with long bowed phrases. Fanous' furious runs followed, becoming almost distorted before blossoming into a mournful melody. Disintegration expressed with the wailing of fingers followed. Finally, the duo returned to the introductory clam character of the piece, slowly yet insistently fading into the distance. In short, a tremendously successful evening for both musicians and audience.
