Peter Erskine led off the Metheny chart, "Elucidation" with a short drum solo that served as a springboard for all to jump into the inherent energy of the piece. Colley lit the path with a brisk walking pattern, offset by strumming pedal tones that supported Burton's bell-toned and expansive cadenza.

Burton and company laid down their instruments and gathered at the front of the stage to take a bow before exiting. The Neurosciences Institute, which was sold out, filled the air with the cacophony of wild applause—drawing the quartet out for an encore—an almost Baroque reading of vibraphonist Milt Jackson's blues, "Bag's Groove."
