Swiss drummer/percussionist, Fredy Studer previously crossed musical paths with New York City reared turntable/electronics ace DJ. M Singe (Beth Coleman) during his tenure with the Koch/Schutz/Studer band. Here, the drummer and DJ M. Singe reunite for some artistically inclined fun and frolic. Although recorded in Zurich, Switzerland this effort parallels much of what has been emanating from New York City’s “downtown scene.” On the opener “Duo 14,” Studer lays down a sturdy pattern consisting of electronically treated cymbals and bass drum while the DJ executes slight variations of a theme via her utilization of electronics. Notions of an ominous sojourn come to mind as the twosome explores alien terrain during these quasi ethereal/techno and trip hop type passages.

DJ M. Singe designs bizarre vernaculars during her turntable escapades, whereas Studer often marches to the beat of a different drummer! They seemingly mimic squeaky cartoon character banter on the delightfully strange piece, “Remix Native Land.” Perhaps the musicians are conveying some sort of dissimulated hi-tech world? On the other hand, maybe their imaginations are suggesting a broadcast feed from another planet? Whatever the message, this recording is a blast! It’s not all about reinventing the norm, but something akin to old wine in new and improved bottles. Recommended!
