Johnny Smith is one of the best players from his era, or any other for that matter. His technical facility, control of melodic development and chord vocabulary were second to none back in the day.

I was lucky enough to meet Johnny and interview him about five years back. Though he's getting up there in age he was still sharp as a tack when it came to musical ideas, and the stories he told about his time in New York and NBC were amazing.

Truly a great player, and this box set is the best collection of his music currently available. One of the best musical purchases I've ever made.
