This article reads like satire, sadly, it's just ignorance.

no, rap is ignorance. ignorance personified.
growing up, i looked to black artists such as stevie wonder for my musical development. and they delivered to me my earliest concepts of rhythm, melody, and harmony. i feel i was a blessed little white boy to have come up in that era, then to have experienced the merger of afro-american music with other forms thru the disco era, and finally the great black music of the 80s. it was truly beautiful to see how MOST bands in the 80s were racially mixed- from culture club to a score of others.
all of that changed after the berlin wall fell. they took away our music literally and replaced it with racially hateful, gangsta garbage. not only has rap basically taken the male prison culture and transfered it mainstream, it has sluttified females and stolen away ROMANCE as a theme. people no longer think in terms of love, they think only in sex mode. the great black comedian stevey garvey said it best about music "if you ain't in love, you done missed the whole thing".
and i agree. when the love left, so did the music. for music is an expression of love. you play WITH love, you play ABOUT love.
and that's what our society sorely needs now.
thank you so much for your article! -

Fergus, you are wrong. The writer of this article is correct when he speaks about the music these days. I'm a Black man who has seen my own Black community fall into degredation and Rap is not helping.
Kids these days don't need anything else keeping them down. Rap may not "cause" bad behavior, violence, and ignorance, but it definately encourages it & has a BIG influence on youth.
Fergus McClements, you say this article is ignorance; but it's actually the opposite of your words. This article is truth. You are just another "Lawyer /Defender" of Rap who is in denial.
Rap in fact is ignorance and it is dumbing down youth. Not just Blacks, but also Whites, Latinos and Asians. -

Fergus, you're just caught up in the culture... a "me too" kind of person. This article is full of truth. Most of the hip hop culture is crap. Pure and simple. To act as if it isn't is ignorant!
