Great review. There is only one small info I would add to it that Ms. Auguscik herself is famous from her two worldwide critically acclaimed Brazilian projects with Paulinho Gracia (fantastic Brazilian guitar player) - "Fragile" and "Homage". Both projects are absolutely outstanding! Real Deal! I give this 2 albums my highest recommendations!

Hi, let me point that the one who is responsible for promotion around
the World of polish lyrics for Apelo is a European Angel - that’s how she is named by critics - Ms. Grazyna Auguscik. On her highly acclaimed THE LIGHT she delivers stunning rendition of that and other standards like “Don’t explain”, “Until it’s time for you to go”, “For all We know” to name just few. With Best Regards, Artur -
That is absolutely right.

Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 18, 2007 reportWell, the first reference to "Apelo" that I ever found was by Anna Maria Jopek, who recorded the song on her 1998 CD Szeptem, with the title "Samba Przed Rozstaniem". I checked both her and Auguscik's recordings, and the Polish lyrics are the same (assertion made by my Polish-born wife)
Best

Good review. Great Album.
I just have to correct the author in one detail. Powell’s “Apelo” with its original title was recorded not by the mentioned singer. The tune appears to be on vocalist Grazyna Auguscik charter "The light" - quite remarkable album it self. I found also very interesting review of that event on pages of Jazz Times Magazine by Bill Milkowski

Yes, I have checked Ms. Jopek. She seems to be more of a pop singer. Her album from 1998 was in did released in Poland. However the first one who do that over there was singer Haana Banaszak. My personal opinion is that there is no comparison with the rendition of Ms. Auguscik on her "The Light". Her deliverance is captivating. It was played all over the world. I know that it was quite popular in States on NPR and other radio stations as well as in here in London.

Hello, Yes Grażyna Auguścik is the one Who has recorded Powell's "Apelo" and has made an entire new entrance of this tune to the world. I think the name of the album you mentioned is "The light". It could be also on some limited edition release (I don’t remember the name of it right now). Thank you for the opportunity to help you in this matter. All the best, Andrzej Kocon

Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 19, 2007 reportThis is going beyond absurdity. "Apelo" was recorded by Anna Maria Jopek as "Samba Przed Rozstaniem". Here is the info from her site

Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 19, 2007 reportAnna Maria Jopek recorded the song as Samba Przed Rosztaniem.
-
Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 19, 2007 reportNot trying to compare. Just making the assertion that it was indeed recorded by Ms. Jopek
-
Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 19, 2007 reportI have edited the article, adding the Polish title of this song, "Samba Przed Rozstaniem". This will possibly end the flurry of comments from Ms. Auguscik's fans...
-
bad recording indeed
-
flurry of comments?
-
Lets fix it.

I’m from Warsaw, Poland and I’ll be more than happy to help with this
issue here.
1. Ms. Hanna Banaszak is the one who sung this tune and record it in
’80 (W moim magicznym domu - Zlota kolekcja – re-masterd re-edition 1998)
so she definitely was the first one who popularizes this tune in Poland
(which is very important).
2. Ms Auguscik is the one who introduced this tune with polish lyrics
to the World on “The Light” GMA Records U.S. release performing it long
time before the worldwide release. (As one of her favorite compositions
– She stated at the cover of the CD).
That is all what is to it.
Thanks. -
Mr. Lumet, yes you are right.
-
Mr. Lumet thank you for an info & the link to jazz times page (vibrant review). I like it very much. I guess it was a great concert than. Thanks once more.

That is a bit unusual to get so emotional by professional music critic as your self just about opinion of others - let say professional fans of particular artist if they are so indeed. Isn’t it? They are some valid points of people who are reading your valid work and just trying to bring more information to it. I thought that we are learning all our lives. That is what it’s all about. Am I right? I’m not a fan of anyone. I lust love good music in particular jazz. That is all. I hope I didn’t offend you Mr. Barteldes. I just don’t wan to have my action called absurdity especially in this case or as a matter of fact in any other case. Peace.
Best regards,
Donald Lumet -
Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 20, 2007 reportNot emotional --- just overwhelmed by the fact that I just happened to mention AMJ in the first place and that i got so much criticism. I hope this ends here.

Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 20, 2007 reportAMJ's recording is not Bad... it is just her own version, and this kind of comment comes from someone who might just not have an open mind.

First of all, you should be very happy that same one is responding to your work even if you do not agree with his point of view You had a chance to present yours already. Mutual respect is the key to be relevant if you know what I mean.
I do not see any criticism around here accept some of it in your reviw and not even mention calling other people's action absurdity.
Some people - strangely enough with similar point of view - happen to mention some other work regarding your view which was not relevant to the review in the first place as you know it but you choose to ignore them. The way I see it is that they were just trying to be resourceful. I think that you are overwhelmed because you realised that you don't know haw to deal with all the responses you have got.
You need to cool down. -
Ernest Barteldes wrote on May 26, 2007 reportNope - just havent seen so many comments on a single piece of mine like has happened with this article.

Nope - you just havent seen so many comments on a single piece of yours because you just started (2 maybe 3 years ego) in this business and that is what we can see. Sorry, you are not giving me any choice by all that not so professional behaviour of yours. So many people were just trying to give you a hand you couldn't take for some reason (the reason you only know). Good luck.
