Greg Henry Waters wrote on January 14, 2008 reportI see nothing productive in this book for the development of jazz. Any book that discusses racist ideas only promotes to separate the music not bring it together.
The all black band, the all white band, and the all Latin band, we still have this mentality in this day. Will it ever end?
Here in NYC which is suppose to be one of the most open societies in our country is just a shading of the truth.
Bill Cosby said enough is enough about this subject get on with your life.
Music should be an art but my travels in other countries only proves music is a political tool of governments and profit for record companies. Atlantic Records is a good example of a company that sold out the musicians and their art.
Here in NYC the local government doesn't support the jazz artists in the village and they take in 28 billion a year from tourist.
We have white non-profits, black non-profits jazz organization, NEA Jazz is now only non-profit, we have record companies who only promote music from the 60's.
Independent artists have to promote their own music, the late night shows are pop centered. If Johnny Carson was here at least we would have more quality instrumental music. Now we have junk and I mean junk.
Club owners have told me jazz musicians play for free, we only hire black jazz musicians people do not want to see white musicians on stage. Is this art or business?
It is never about the music always something else. Even musicians do not know what music is.
We have so many problems in our music why put more salt on the awful big wound that is all ready there and has been there for ?, I do not know.
