Thanks for publishing this review of these two books about John Coltrane. Thanks to Norman Weinstein for standing up for accuracy in defining the life and work of one of the great artists of the 20th century, and for spelling out the difference between opinion and speculation (thought up by a critic) and facts about a real person with a real history. Please let this kind of writing set the standard on All About Jazz.
Coltrane, like so many other jazz artists earned and created what is now his legacy while surviving the critics while he was on this Earth. Revising any part of his true history to promote one's own opinion is unnecessary and petty.
