This album display the two divergent paths that jazz was taking around this time. The melodic restraint of Kelly and Mobley is in stark contrast to the freer style of Davis and Coltrane. At times these forms appear rather incongruous and the impression is of a group of musicians not entirely at ease with other. Still it's fascinating and rewarding experience.
