The strings, and especially, the song length and lack of improv made this dangerously close to "elevator-music" (in fact, I've heard this many times in elevators)-but I listened to this record studiously to learn the melodies and phrasing for playing these tunes in a jazz context. Jobim's harmonic and melodic sense are still priceless.
