“Jubilee” by Noah Bernstein
From

Editor's Comments
Nice modern piece. Solos use some odd turns of phrase, balanced by the splendid layering of harmonies on the breaks. A cool view of the new generation of jazzers coming out of the Portland scene.
About
With seven originals arranged for saxophone quartet, bass, and drums, this ambitious first outing as leader finds the saxophonist/composer viewing music through somewhat of a wide-angle lens. "Jubilee" bridges such disparate scenes as third stream, free jazz, groove, and minimalism with an unforced narrative that exemplifies Bernstein's writing style. The album features Portland saxophonists Eugene Lee, Blake Lyman, Mary Sue Tobin, and Bernstein himself, as well as bassist Andre St. James and drummer Mark Griffith.
