When I was taking lab band in junior college, the professor told
us that we needed to quit listening to as much rock and start
buying more jazz records. Since I was already addicted to buying
records, this seemed like an ideal way to legitimize my
spending.
A lot of time has passed since then. While I never got too
involved with actually playing music, I didn't stop buying records. I
mean when a teacher tells you to do something, you should do
it, right? I even worked at a few record stores while I was going to
college.
I've been doing book reviews on AAJ for a couple of years now.
It's been a great experience. I'm also back in school, working on
another degree.
