Ken Kase is a musician and critic who lives in St. Louis, MO.

Music is fun, and critics should be fair. And if they can't be fair, they should at least be entertaining. And if they can't be fair or entertaining, then they should go work for the established and moribound jazz press.

Jazz criticism should be independent. A writer's conscience should be his or her guide, not the interests of advertisers and PR people. Those with sufficient knowledge and love for the music should be unencumbered by such concerns, and excercise that freedom freely and judiciously.
