Alexander J. Beissenhirtz is a dedicated jazz fan and part-time jazz scholar from Hamburg, Germany
I have done extensive research on jazz writing, specializing in autobiographical texts by jazz musicians. My Ph.D. thesis was published in 2012 under the title Affirmation and Resistance: The Politics of the Jazz Life in the self-narratives of Louis Armstrong, Art Pepper, and Oscar Peterson by Verlag Ludwig in Kiel, Germany.
Apart from my field of research, I am generally interested in American and European Jazz and related forms of improvised music.
