Based in the UK, Duncan Heining has been writing about jazz for 15 years.

I love jazz, pretty much all of it - I make an exception for 'smooth jazz' or indeed 'smooth' anything. I get excited listening to Sidney Bechet or to Evan Parker, to George Russell or to Luis Russell. I began writing about the music in 96/97 for Avant Magazine and have written for a number of publications including at present Jazzwise and Jazz UK. In 2010, Scarecrow published by biography of the late and great George Russell and my history of British jazz in the sixties will appear in 2012 (Equinox). My first jazz gig was in 1969 - the Melody Makers Pollwinners Concert - Don Rendell-Ian Carr Quintet, Ronnie Scott Band, Mike Westbrook Concert Band, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth and a jam session with Stan Tracey, Tubby Hayes, HaroldMcNair, Joe Harriott and others. Need I say more?
